Five-storey apartment building planned for Corunna

Construction is expected to begin soon on a five-storey apartment building on Murray Street in Corunna.
Vensuris Design Build, a company that recently completed construction of a six-storey building on Afton Drive in Sarnia, said in a news release the 83-apartment, mid-market building planned for Murray Street in Corunna is expected to open in the fall of 2027.
“It’s going very, very well,” Lauren Pomerleau, vice-president of growth and performance for the Vensuris Group, said about the recent opening of the company’s 90-unit building in Sarnia where construction began in March 2025.
“We’re over 50 percent leased up,” she said. “We officially started moving people in on June 30. We were a month ahead of schedule, which rarely happens.”
There has been “great feedback” from initial residents in Sarnia, Pomerleau said. “We’ve got a full calendar of events for the people who are moving in.”
The new project, 389 Murray, will include one-bedroom, one-bedroom plus den and two-bedroom apartments with balconies and in-suite laundry, temperature controls and central air conditioning, according to a news release.
“The top probably two floors will actually be able to see the water,” Pomerleau said.
Corunna, a community in St. Clair Township, sits next to the St. Clair River.
The building also will have two elevators, indoor bicycle storage, a social lounge, fitness studio, golf simulator, outdoor seating and barbecue area, community gardening beds and a car wash station, the release said.
“Corunna was a community we always had our eye on,” Pomerleau said. “We thought it was a community we could bring our specific type of building to.”
A ground-breaking is expected to be held in the coming weeks, the company said.
“Corunna is a community where people have deep roots, they know their neighbours, they’re close to family, and they’ve built a life here,” Pomerleau said.
The project is intended to provide Corunna residents “the option to simplify their day-to-day without having to leave the community they love,” she said.
Vensuris Design Build is a Sarnia-based real estate developer and general contractor specializing in the design and construction of midrise residential communities, the release said. Vensuris previously constructed a six-storey apartment building on the site of the former Zeller’s plaza in Sarnia.
“We are still looking in Sarnia and likely will develop there again", Pomerleau said.
